Its value lies in holding shade, air, pause and a changing relationship to the interior without becoming fully enclosed.
That flexibility depends on complete technical thinking: drainage, rain, heat, edge safety, circulation and maintenance
Without those responsibilities, the space risks becoming only a persuasive image.
The design consequence lies in legible arrival, privacy gradients, vertical separation, acoustics, waiting and thresholds that reduce unnecessary exposure.
An in-between room becomes whole when its details are prepared to belong to both conditions.
